Why we tell you not to port your number
Porting moves your number to a new carrier. It takes days, occasionally weeks, and if it goes wrong your practice line is dead in the middle of it. Forwarding does not touch your number at all — your carrier keeps it, and you can switch the forward off in thirty seconds. There is no upside to porting that is worth a day of a dead phone, so we do it free and still advise against it.
